The core partner data centres that are integrated in NorDataNet are listed in https://www.nordatanet.no/en/node/69. In addition to this NorDataNet harvests information on relevant datasets from a number of other data centres. The data centre responsible for the data presented is usually (but not always) listed in the discovery metadata. In essence NorDataNet is an aggregating service that combines information from a number of existing data centres.
Citation of data and service
If you use data retrieved through this portal, please acknowledge our funding source:
Research Council of Norway, project number 245967/F50, Norwegian Scientific Data Network.
Always remember to cite data when used!
Citation information for individual datasets is often provided in the metadata. However, not all datasets have this information embedded in the discovery metadata. On a general basis a citation of a dataset include the same components as any other citation:
author, title,
year of publication,
publisher (for data this is often the archive where it is housed),
edition or version,
access information (a URL or persistent identifier, e.g. DOI if provided)
All partner repositories of NorDataNet support Digital Object Identifiers (DOI), but not all datasets are minted. Whether or not minted depends often on source of the data (e.g. operational data are often yet not minted). However, all data centres support persistent identifiers according to local systems. The information required to properly cite a dataset is normally provided in the discovery metadata the datasets.
Brief user guide
The Data Access Portal has information in 3 columns. An outline of the content in these columns is provided above. When first entering the search interface, all potential datasets are listed. Datasets are indicated in the map and results tabulation elements which are located in the middle column. The order of results can be modified using the "Sort by" option in the left column. On top of this column is normally relevant guidance information to user presented as collapsible elements.
If the user want to refine the search, this can be done by constraining the bounding box search. This is done in the map - the listing of datasets is automatically updated. Date constraints can be added in the left column. For these to take effect, the user has to push the button marked search. In the left column it is also possible to specific text elements to search for in the datasets. Again pushing the button marked "Search" is necessary for these to take action. Complex search patterns can be constructed using logical operators identified in the drop down menu with and phrases embedded in quotation marks. Prefixing a phrase with '-' negates the phrase (i.e. should not occur in the results). Searches are case insensitive.
Other elements indicated in the left and right columns are facet searches, i.e. these are keywords that are found in the datasets and all datasets that contain these specific keywords in the appropriate metadata elements are listed together. Further refinement can be done using full text, date or bounding box constraints. Individuals, organisations and data centres involved in generating or curating the datasets are listed in the facets in the right column. The combination of search fields (including facets) is based on a logical "AND" combination of the fields, i.e. all conditions are fulfilled for the results provided.

Abstract:
These CMIP5 model data show interpolated results in Arctic only. Original data were cut and interpolated for internal use of the EU funded project ACCESS.
This data set, part of the NASA Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) program, is an improved, enhanced-resolution, gridded passive microwave Earth System Data Record (ESDR) for monitoring cryospheric and hydrologic time series from SMMR, SSM/I-SSMIS, and AMSR-E. It is derived from the most mature and available Level-2 satellite passive microwave records from 1978 through the present.
This data set includes yearly snow melt onset dates over Arctic sea ice derived from Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR), Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I), and the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) brightness temperature measurements. The data are gridded to the 25 km Northern Hemisphere Polar Stereographic projection and available from 1979 through 2022. One browse image is available for each year.
This data set also contains value-added statistics for each grid cell, including: mean melt onset date, latest (maximum) melt onset date, earliest (minimum) melt onset date, range of melt onset dates (the difference between maximum and minimum onset dates), and the standard deviation of melt onset dates. One browse image is also provided for each statistical field.
This data set provides tracer parcels to simulate sea ice advection paths in the Northern Hemisphere combined with sea ice concentration data. Sea ice parcels are identified in 25 km grid cells where sea ice concentrations are greater than 15% and tracked daily using Polar Pathfinder Daily 25 km EASE-Grid Sea Ice Motion Vectors (NSIDC-0116). Locations are updated weekly to determine whether an ice parcel has melted and should be tracked. Columns represent the EASE-grid x, y, and sea ice concentration values for each week over the 12 month tracking period and rows depict distinct simulated ice parcels.
This collection consists of both analog and digital aerial photographs from Arctic areas in and around Baffin Bay, the Labrador Sea, the Arctic Ocean, the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas, and the Bering Sea and Strait from 1962 to 1984 as well as data reports from 1962 through 1971.
This data set provides monthly snow depth for the entire globe (excluding Africa and South America) from 1950 to 1976. All available monthly snow depth climatologies were integrated by the Rand Corporation in the early 1980s into one global digital data set gridded at 4 degree latitude x 5 degree longitude.
This data set consists of daily, global grayscale TIFF images measured in the 6.7 µm window (6.5 µm - 7.0 µm) and the 11.5 µm window (10.5 µm - 12.5 µm) by the Temperature-Humidity Infrared Radiometer (THIR) on board the Nimbus 7 satellite. Each data granule is a daytime or nighttime global composite of all the swaths in a day. Note: This data set is not georeferenced and there are some gaps in the temporal coverage because of missing data.
The purpose of this site is to expose NASA satellite data and research on Arctic change in the form of maps that illustrate the changes taking place in the Arctic over time. A high-speed internet connection is recommended for map viewing. This site is presented with support from NASA Earth Sciences.
This data set provides observations of end of month snow depth, snow density, and snow water equivalent from three river basins in Central Asia: Amu Darya, Sir Darya, and Naryn. Temporal coverage varies for each snow point, with the longest station record extending from 1932 through 1990.
This data set, part of the NASA Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) program, contains a global record of the daily freeze/thaw status of the landscape. The record is derived from radiometric brightness temperatures acquired between 1979 and 2021 by four satellite-based, passive microwave sensors: the Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR), the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I), the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS), and the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2).
