Abstract:
Ocean currents, hydrography and microstructure data from a physical oceanography cruise in August 2015, to study ocean mixing processes north of Svalbard as a part of the project ”On Thin Ice (NICE): Role of Ocean Heat Flux in Sea Ice Melt”. The data set is collected from the Research Vessel Haakon Mosby (HM 2015617) and is quality-controlled. The data set includes 1-decibar vertically averaged hydrography (temperature, salinity and potential density from the CTD system), 1-m vertically averaged microstructure profiler data (dissipation rate of TKE from the microstructure profiler), and 8-m vertically averaged current profiles from the ship's hull-mounted ADCP (VMADCP, 5-min time averaged) and lowered-ADCP systems (LADCP). In total 4 netCDF files (one for each system) are provided, and the summary for each file describes the instrument and methods. Details on the processing, an overview of the data, and a detailed list of stations are provided in the attached cruise report. Parts of the data set are reported in Kolås and Fer (2018).
