The core partner data centres that are integrated in NorDataNet are listed in https://www.nordatanet.no/en/node/69. In addition to this NorDataNet harvests information on relevant datasets from a number of other data centres. The data centre responsible for the data presented is usually (but not always) listed in the discovery metadata. In essence NorDataNet is an aggregating service that combines information from a number of existing data centres.
Citation of data and service
If you use data retrieved through this portal, please acknowledge our funding source:
Research Council of Norway, project number 245967/F50, Norwegian Scientific Data Network.
Always remember to cite data when used!
Citation information for individual datasets is often provided in the metadata. However, not all datasets have this information embedded in the discovery metadata. On a general basis a citation of a dataset include the same components as any other citation:
author, title,
year of publication,
publisher (for data this is often the archive where it is housed),
edition or version,
access information (a URL or persistent identifier, e.g. DOI if provided)
All partner repositories of NorDataNet support Digital Object Identifiers (DOI), but not all datasets are minted. Whether or not minted depends often on source of the data (e.g. operational data are often yet not minted). However, all data centres support persistent identifiers according to local systems. The information required to properly cite a dataset is normally provided in the discovery metadata the datasets.
Brief user guide
The Data Access Portal has information in 3 columns. An outline of the content in these columns is provided above. When first entering the search interface, all potential datasets are listed. Datasets are indicated in the map and results tabulation elements which are located in the middle column. The order of results can be modified using the "Sort by" option in the left column. On top of this column is normally relevant guidance information to user presented as collapsible elements.
If the user want to refine the search, this can be done by constraining the bounding box search. This is done in the map - the listing of datasets is automatically updated. Date constraints can be added in the left column. For these to take effect, the user has to push the button marked search. In the left column it is also possible to specific text elements to search for in the datasets. Again pushing the button marked "Search" is necessary for these to take action. Complex search patterns can be constructed using logical operators identified in the drop down menu with and phrases embedded in quotation marks. Prefixing a phrase with '-' negates the phrase (i.e. should not occur in the results). Searches are case insensitive.
Other elements indicated in the left and right columns are facet searches, i.e. these are keywords that are found in the datasets and all datasets that contain these specific keywords in the appropriate metadata elements are listed together. Further refinement can be done using full text, date or bounding box constraints. Individuals, organisations and data centres involved in generating or curating the datasets are listed in the facets in the right column. The combination of search fields (including facets) is based on a logical "AND" combination of the fields, i.e. all conditions are fulfilled for the results provided.
This data set is a collection of airborne, in-flight meteorological and in-cabin measurements, as well as thermal emission measurements of near-nadir surface skin temperature, collected by the National Suborbital Education and Research Center (NSERC). Instruments flown over Antarctica include a cabin pressure transducer, a 2-stage and a 3-stage hygrometer, a total air temperature sensor, and an infrared surface temperature pyrometer. The data files contain measurements for 36 meteorological, surface characteristic, and positional variables. The data were collected as part of Operation IceBridge funded campaigns.

This data set is comprised of four surveyed valleys focusing on the depth to ground ice in the high-elevation Quartermain Mountains in the Beacon Valley area: University Valley, Farnell Valley, and two unnamed valleys north of University Valley, which we will call Valley North and Valley 2 North. To date it is only in the high-elevation Dry Valleys that the climatic conditions are dry and cold enough that cryotic (always below 0°C) yet dry soil is found over ice-cemented ground (McKay et al. 1998); (Bockheim 2007). The data provide a qualitative and quantitative contribution towards understanding the type and distribution of ground ice in the Quartermain Mountains at a high spatial resolution. The measurements can be used to improve and validate models of ice stability and distribution. This data set contains observations of depth to ice-cemented ground, based on 475 measurements at 147 sites. Note that the measurements represent the thickness of the active layer plus any dry permafrost layer, which is ubiquitous in this region, and not just the thickness of the active layer.

The Climate Change Tower Integrated Project (CCT-IP) represents the guide lines of the italian research in the arctic and aims to study the interaction between all the components of the climate system in the Arctic. The Amundsen-Nobile Climate Change Tower (CCT) is the key infrastructure of the project, and provides continuous acquisition of the atmospheric parameters at different heights as well as at the interface between the surface and the atmosphere.
The sensor used to measure the radiation budget and energy fluxes is a CNR1 net radiometer at 33 m of height and a CM11 and a CG4 at 25 m to measure the upwelling radiation from the surface.
30 minutes average (μ) and standard deviation (σ) of radiation data as well as products such as total net radiation average and shortwave albedo are available for the download.
Data at resolution of 1 minute are available for online visualization and downloadable under request.

As part of the "KROP - Kongsfjorden Rijpfjorden Observatory Programme" UiT The Arctic University of Norway and The Scottish Association for Marine Science maintain marine observatories (moorings) in two high-Arctic fjords in Svalbard: Kongsfjorden and Rijpfjorden. The observatories consists of an array of CTDs, temperature loggers, ADCPs and a sediment trap, in addition to various other instruments or installations that change from year to year. This dataset contains the CTD, PAR and fluorescence data from Kongsfjorden 2009-2010. Fluorescence data is given as raw voltage only, due to calibration and fouling issues. It is meant as an indication of the timing of the phytoplankton bloom, not as absolute chlorophyll a concentration. No post-recovery processing of light data (to correct for fouling) has been performed. An additional temperature logger was mounted on the pick-up line, allowing for shallow (approx. 15 m) temperature data. First deployment including an ePAR sensor on a SBE16+ at 37m. Included in all future deployments. Settlement plates were mounted below the SBE16p but the data has not been used or published.
Current measurements from Recording Doppler Current Meters (RDCP), Acoustic Doppler Current Meters (ADCP) and Recording Current Meters (RCM) from the moorings F11, F12, F13, F14, F17 from the Fram Strait Arctic Outflow Observatory in the East Greenland Current maintained by the Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) since September 2009. Exact locations and additional instrument information is given in the meta data in each data file individually.
Quality
Data are provided at the original sampling rate (which varies from 15 minutes to 2 hours).
Absolute geostrophic velocity obtained from 1 m binned CTD data from August/September cruises from 2009 to 2018 and mooring data in the East Greenland Current at 78°50’N. The data are provided for the area between 1°W - 8°W. The geostrophic velocity is referenced to 30-day mean mooring data which are averaged over 30 days centered around the middle of cruise. The unit of absolute geostrophic velocity is m/s. Depth in m, latitude and longitude are also provided for each year.
