Abstract:
Under the EU project "Developing Arctic Modelling and Observing
Capabilities for Long-term Environment Studies - DAMOCLES", the
Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen collected ocean current
profiles using an acoustic Doppler current profiler installed in a
bottom frame, located at the 115-m sill separating Storfjorden in
Svalbard Archipelago and Storfjordrenna north of Storfjordbanken on the
Barents Sea shelf. Storfjorden, through its polynya activity, produces
highly saline water near the freezing temperature which fills the fjord
to the sill level and initiates a gravity driven overflow. The
instrument was turned over annually, and observations are available
between September 2003 and May 2007. Four data files are supplied, one
for each year. Details on the data processing and
instrumentation are provided in the attached reports.
Three reports are supplied. Data from 2004 was reported in Fer [2006]
including processing details, data quality and velocity observations. In
Fer [2007], the first 3 years (2004, 2005 and 2006) are reported
together, including an interannual comparison. The observations from
2007 are reported in Daae and Fer [2008].
