The core partner data centres that are integrated in NorDataNet are listed in https://www.nordatanet.no/en/node/69. In addition to this NorDataNet harvests information on relevant datasets from a number of other data centres. The data centre responsible for the data presented is usually (but not always) listed in the discovery metadata. In essence NorDataNet is an aggregating service that combines information from a number of existing data centres.
Citation of data and service
If you use data retrieved through this portal, please acknowledge our funding source:
Research Council of Norway, project number 245967/F50, Norwegian Scientific Data Network.
Always remember to cite data when used!
Citation information for individual datasets is often provided in the metadata. However, not all datasets have this information embedded in the discovery metadata. On a general basis a citation of a dataset include the same components as any other citation:
author, title,
year of publication,
publisher (for data this is often the archive where it is housed),
edition or version,
access information (a URL or persistent identifier, e.g. DOI if provided)
All partner repositories of NorDataNet support Digital Object Identifiers (DOI), but not all datasets are minted. Whether or not minted depends often on source of the data (e.g. operational data are often yet not minted). However, all data centres support persistent identifiers according to local systems. The information required to properly cite a dataset is normally provided in the discovery metadata the datasets.
Brief user guide
The Data Access Portal has information in 3 columns. An outline of the content in these columns is provided above. When first entering the search interface, all potential datasets are listed. Datasets are indicated in the map and results tabulation elements which are located in the middle column. The order of results can be modified using the "Sort by" option in the left column. On top of this column is normally relevant guidance information to user presented as collapsible elements.
If the user want to refine the search, this can be done by constraining the bounding box search. This is done in the map - the listing of datasets is automatically updated. Date constraints can be added in the left column. For these to take effect, the user has to push the button marked search. In the left column it is also possible to specific text elements to search for in the datasets. Again pushing the button marked "Search" is necessary for these to take action. Complex search patterns can be constructed using logical operators identified in the drop down menu with and phrases embedded in quotation marks. Prefixing a phrase with '-' negates the phrase (i.e. should not occur in the results). Searches are case insensitive.
Other elements indicated in the left and right columns are facet searches, i.e. these are keywords that are found in the datasets and all datasets that contain these specific keywords in the appropriate metadata elements are listed together. Further refinement can be done using full text, date or bounding box constraints. Individuals, organisations and data centres involved in generating or curating the datasets are listed in the facets in the right column. The combination of search fields (including facets) is based on a logical "AND" combination of the fields, i.e. all conditions are fulfilled for the results provided.

Abstract:
This data set consists of air and soil temperatures from various sites in Alaska between 1995 and 2001. Data loggers recorded soil temperatures at 1 cm below the ground or snow surface, and air temperatures at 1.6 m above the surface. Temperatures are given in degrees Celcius. Data collection sites around the state include: Toolik Lake, Galbraith, Happy Valley, Prudhoe Bay, Council, Livengood, Yukon River, Barrow, Gold Creek, Kanuti River, Fairbanks, Chandalar, and Graylink Lake.
The data consist of 53 space-delimited ASCII text files, and are available via ftp. Each data file contains date, time, and temperature columns, and some files contain additional data. A table in the documentation for this data set lists each data file and its contents.
The research project was funded by the Arctic System Sciences (ARCSS) Program, grant number OPP-9321730.
This dataset includes Geophysical Institute (GFI), University of Bergen mooring BSO199505 data. The mooring consists of 1 inst. (instrument type:instrument number(instrument depth)):RCM7:10908(40m) . Metadata and raw/processed time series are presented as NetCDF, text and pdf(plots with statistics, calibration sheets, mooring drawing) files.

Abstract:
This data set provides snow depth measurements in the study area at Toolik Station, Alaska, taken once yearly on May 2nd, for the years 1995 through 2001. Measurements were taken by hand using a steel tile probe and are given in centimeters. The study area is designed in 1.5 meter by 1.5 meter plots, 3 meters apart. 10 measurements were taken within each plot. Data are in table format in text files and are available via FTP.
This work was funded by the National Science Foundation as a part of the Arctic System Science (ARCSS) Program grants: OPP-9321626, OPP-9615845, and OPP-9907185.
This study documents activity patterns and diving behaviour of four bearded seal (Erignathus barbatus)mothers during the lactation period. Depth and velocity were recorded at intervals of 10 s, with a depth resolution of 2 m. The females spent 8 ± 3% (mean ± SD) of their time hauled out on the ice and92 ± 3% in the water. Approximately half of their time was spent diving. During the study 15 077 dives were recorded. The duration of dives was 2.0 ± 2.3 min and diving depth was 17.2 ± 22.5 m (maximum 18.7 min and 288 m,respectively). Haulout periods occurred 3 ± 2 times per day (duration = 44.0 ± 98.1 min). The overall distance swumper day was 48.1 ± 23.2 km. Three dive types were differentiated using a combination of hierarchical and k-meansclustering, one V-shaped grouping and two U-shaped groupings. The most common dive type was U1; these dives werethe deepest and longest type (depth = 28 ± 32 m, duration = 185 ± 146 s), and bottom time occupied a significantfraction of the total dive time (120 ± 120 s). These dives are likely foraging dives. Lactation is energetically demandingfor bearded seals, and females do forage while they have dependent pups.

The data show concentrations of total mercury (THg) in hair from female adult (>4 years, n= 185) and sub-adult (1-4 years; n= 14) polar bears from the Barents Sea subpopulation management regime. The samples were collected in spring of each year between 1995 and 2016 (except 2001 and 2002). Additionally, the samples were analysed for stable isotopes of carbon (δ13C), sulfur (δ34S), and nitrogen (δ15N) to approximate feeding habits (δ13C and δ34S: marine vs. terrestrial diet, δ15N: trophic level). It was assumed that δ34S could be a potential indicator for bacterial mercury methylation. The data were used to explore temporal trend of THg, and how they were affected by changes in feeding habits, and changes in body condition, breeding status, and age. The THg concentrations are given in µg/g hair; and values of all stable isotopes in ‰. Polar bear length and girth are given in cm, and weight in kg. Breeding status refers to females captured alone (n), with cubs of the year (c), or with one or two year old offspring (y, 2y).
The dataset contains reported user observations of marine mammals in or around Svalbard.
The users are collaborating partners from AECO (Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators) and researchers/locals/visitors which makes marine mammals sightings citizen based research. The reports are done in the field using an excel spreadsheet template.
The database contains time, location, species and the number of individuals observed. See the attached field list for more information on individual fields. Afterwards, a biologist goes through the list adding quality assurance remarks about the content.
Note: delimiter for the dataset is $, since comma and tabs is often included in the text.

This dataset contains stable isotope ratio data (C and N) from 45 serum samples from Northwest adult hooded seals. Samples were collected during the breeding season in the period 1995 to 2018/2019 in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The integration time for serum is approximately one to two weeks, so this analysis provides us with information on the habits of seals in the weeks immediately prior to breeding.
