Abstract:
We used an ice-penetrating radar system manufactured by The Ohio State University, USA. The system is composed of a transmitter, receiver and 20 m long dipole antennae. The transmitter radiates electromagnetic waves (central frequency 5 MHz) in the form of a short high-voltage pulse. The distance between the transmitter and receiver was 20 m. We measured wave propagation speed in the glacier using the common-midpoint method. The ice thickness measurement was carried out every 20 m along one longitudinal and three transverse profiles.
