“More and more often these days, a research project’s success is measured not just by the publications it produces, but also by the data it makes available to the wider community.

Pioneering archives such as GenBank have demonstrated just how powerful such legacy data sets can be for generating new discoveries – especially when data are combined from many laboratories and analysed in ways that the original researchers could not have anticipated.”

The report presents the results of an investigation of business models for about fifty data repositories holding data from multiple scientific domains, a review and discussion of possible business models for research data repositories, and recommendations for making sustainable business models. EUDAT organizes the conference “Putting the EOSC vision into practice” in Porto, Portugal, late January 2018. The conference will present latest trends in data infrastructure and data management solutions for research, demonstrate solutions developed by EUDAT for specific user communities, present the newly established EUDAT Collaborative Data Infrastructure (CDI) and discuss the establishment of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the European Data Infrastructure (EDI).
