“More and more often these days, a research project’s success is measured not just by the publications it produces, but also by the data it makes available to the wider community.
Pioneering archives such as GenBank have demonstrated just how powerful such legacy data sets can be for generating new discoveries – especially when data are combined from many laboratories and analysed in ways that the original researchers could not have anticipated.”

The NorDataNet project office is hosted at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, but NorDataNet is a joint collaboration between several partners. In order to facilitate user interaction and efficient handling of requests, NorDataNet has set up a contact form. In order to use this users must be registered. This is to avoid spamming which is an increasing problem.
The NorDataNet website is free and open. Most of the functionality can be used without registration. However, for some functionality, we may require users to register. The reasons for this are
to be able to provide the correct information to the user that requested the information
to be able to manage the processing and storage capacity required properly
User registration is usually required for transformation services or other services that actively utilise the basket functionality in the data search. This user registration will allow users to use other functionality in the website, like commenting etc although these services are not fully developed yet.
In addition to this NorDataNet is running a number of user workshops. In order to plan room size etc for these workshops we ask people to register up front.
NorDataNet is never sharing information on individual users with third parties, nor is the project using this information in mailing lists or similar currently. Active consent is required before such is done.
NordataNet evaluation form
A webform has been created to collect user's feedback on the webportal in general, its functionalities and more specifically the data search interface and associated tools. The webform will always be available and will be used as input to evaluation of user needs, space for improvements and implement a more user-friendly portal. Thus we hope that you will provide your input and help us make this a valuable tool for the scientific community.
