Collaboration with the Norwegian Infrastructure for Research Data

By steingod |

NorDataNet has started a joint project with the Norwegian Infrastructure for Research Data (NIRD) to establish OPeNDAP and OGC WMS access to datasets hosted by NIRD. This will simplify integration of datasets hosted by NIRD with the NorDataNet service portfolio. OGC WMS is used for visualisation of gridded datasets like satellite images and numerical simulations, while OPeNDAP is or will be used for subsetting and transformation of gridded datasets as well as subsetting, transformation and visualisation of timeseries and profiles. Data must be encoded according to the Climate and Forecast (CF) convention for this to work. Work is in progress on a service that the user community can use to check the encoding of data according to the CF convention as well uploading data to NorDataNet.

Further integration of the NIRD service portfolio in NorDataNet will be discussed once this first step is completed. NIRD has a number of services that are relevant for NorDataNet users, some of these are mentioned below:

The intention is to fully integrate the NIRD Research Data Archive as a data centre in the NorDataNet network.
